Studio · Playbook · Screen

The same screen for every applicant, built from the must-haves.

Knockout questions, qualifiers, a phone-screen script and ideal answers, all from the spec.

The Screening Pack turns the spec's must-haves into knockout gates, the nice-to-haves into qualifying questions, and wraps both in a phone-screen script with an ideal answer for each question. Two people screening the same candidate reach a comparable result, and a high-volume applicant pool gets worked through quickly and fairly.

01 · How it works

What goes in, what comes out.

Input
What it works from

The confirmed job spec. Edit the must-haves first if you want the gates to change.

Output
What you receive

Knockout questions, qualifying questions, a phone-screen script and an ideal-answer guide per question.

02 · Why it matters

Why this exists.

Screening is where consistency goes to die. The first 10 calls of the day get a thorough conversation. The last 10 get whatever energy is left. Different recruiters ask different questions, weigh answers differently and write up notes nobody can compare. The hiring manager gets a shortlist that reflects the screener's mood as much as the candidate.

Deriving the questions from the spec fixes the input side: the knockouts are the must-haves, nothing else, so a candidate is only screened out on something the job actually requires. The ideal-answer guide fixes the output side: a good answer looks the same to everyone. The script keeps the call to 15 minutes without missing anything, which matters more on the 30th call than the first.

03 · What it does

5 things this delivers.

  1. 01 Knockout gates derived only from the spec's must-haves
  2. 02 Qualifying questions from the nice-to-haves to rank the people who pass
  3. 03 A phone-screen script that keeps the call short and complete
  4. 04 An ideal answer for every question, so scores compare across screeners
  5. 05 Regenerates when the spec changes
04 · In practice

3 ways it shows up.

Scenario 01

A logistics employer with 300 applicants for 20 driver roles gives 3 screeners the same pack. The shortlist that reaches the hiring manager is consistent for the first time.

Scenario 02

A consultant uses the ideal-answer guide to brief a new researcher, who is screening confidently by the second day.

Scenario 03

A hiring manager challenges a rejection. The recruiter shows the knockout question, the must-have it maps to and the answer given, and the conversation ends there.

05 · Who it's for

Who this is built for.

Anyone screening volume, and anyone who has been asked why 2 recruiters reached opposite conclusions about the same candidate.

06 · Common questions

Things people ask.

Where do the questions come from?
From the spec. Must-haves become knockouts and nice-to-haves become qualifiers, so the screen tests what the job needs rather than a generic checklist.
What is in the ideal-answer guide?
A short model answer for each question, so 2 people screening the same candidate reach a comparable score.
Does it work for high-volume roles?
It is built for them. A consistent knockout set and script is what keeps a large applicant pool fair and quick to work through.
Can I edit the questions?
Yes. Every question is a draft. Edit, cut or add, or regenerate the pack after changing the spec.
How is this different from the CV Screener?
The CV Screener ranks written applications against the spec. The Screening Pack gives you the questions and script for the call that follows.
Is it included on Solo?
Yes. All 11 playbook assets and the 3 Desk Radar tools are included on Solo at £149 a month, with a 7-day trial. Card required, cancel any time inside the window.
